Determine trough dimensions: How to measure your forklift battery correctly
Determine trough dimensions: How to measure your forklift battery correctly
Please measure the length, width, and height of your battery tray. Make sure to enter the dimensions in the order length x width x height. For illustration, here's a diagram of a cuboid.
- Length (L) : Measure the longest side of the battery from edge to edge
- Width (B) : Measure the shortest side that runs perpendicular to the length.
- Height (H) : Measure from the bottom of the battery to the highest point, including terminals or covers.
Note : Dimensions are always given in length x width x height (LxWxH). Please be precise when measuring to ensure the battery fits your device.
Choosing a forklift battery: How to find the right type
Choosing a forklift battery: How to find the right type
The battery type provides information about voltage, capacity, design, cell type, and dimensions. This information can be found directly on the battery's nameplate, which is usually attached to the side of the battery compartment.
The type designation of a forklift battery is composed of several components that define certain properties. For example:
“24V 2 PzS 250”
- 24V – The nominal voltage of the battery
- 2 PzS – The cell type (PzS stands for “armor plate traction battery” with liquid electrolyte)
- 250 Ah – The capacity of the battery in ampere hours (Ah)
The type plate of a forklift battery also contains further information such as:
- Battery voltage (V)
- Number of cells
- Capacity (Ah)
- Weight (kg)
- Production date and serial number
- Amount of acid (for lead-acid batteries)
- Energy content (in kWh for modern batteries)
Alternatively, the type designation can also be found in the forklift's vehicle documentation or in the operating manual.

Maintenance tips for a longer lifespan of your forklift battery
Maintenance tips for a longer lifespan of your forklift battery
Regular maintenance is important for the lifespan and performance of your forklift battery. Follow these tips:
- Top up water regularly : Use distilled water and be sure to check the water level after each charging cycle (except for maintenance-free batteries).
- Keep the battery clean : Clean the battery surface and terminals regularly to prevent corrosion.
- Avoid deep discharge : Charge the battery in good time before the charge level falls below 20%.
- Pay attention to charging cycles : Use only suitable chargers and charge the battery fully to extend its service life.
- Regular visual inspection : Check the battery for damage, cracks or leaks.
